Review: Escape Land – Right To The Throne

The Princess has disappeared without the trace and the kingdom is in disarray without the rightful heir to the throne. Our task was simple – find her within 60 minutes before she is lost forever! Locked into Right to the Throne, Escape Land’s newest Game of Thrones themed escape room, our team of five set to quick work.

The room flows very well, with achievable and well-thought through puzzles. One particular mode of transportation into a hidden room was especially fun and brought a smile to all our faces.

With a good amount of puzzles at a medium difficulty, this is certainly a room well-suited to first-time escapers. The variety of  challenges are engaging, and we escaped with four minutes to spare with minimal but thoughtful clues from our friendly guide.

This is not a high tech room, but considering we are thrust into medieval times, the lack of technological puzzles was not a problem. Nevertheless, it would be fantastic if more detail was put into the set as there are many opportunities for the room to be more immersive. For example, rather than inscriptions with a marker pen, it would be fantastic to have messages carved into wood or at least a wood-like panel.

Other areas for improvement include the sound and lighting design of the room which could help enhance the feeling of place and increase the dramatic effect of our mission. The reception area is comfortable and spacious, but an area to lockup valuables rather than having to take them into the room would also be handy.

An old school escape room that is fun to play at a fair price in the centre of London, this is an accessible escape room especially recommended for first-timers.

Right to the Throne costs £78 regardless of the amount of people. We were recommend 3-6 players and felt 4 is the optimal number as 5 was too many people for the space and tasks required in our experience. With our recommended 4 people team it would cost £19.50 per person, which the group felt was good value for money.
